welcome
hello
listen, it’s 2019. blogging is 2000-and-late. you either gotta start a newsletter or podcast. people have been asking for my thoughts here and there over the past few years and since my first viral hit was a blog, i thought i’d do a newsletter.
let’s get some stuff out of the way.
———————————————
who am i?
my name is Andrew Watts. I am currently a marketing manager at HQ Trivia, the live mobile gameshow where hundreds of thousands of players answer questions and win cash. Before that I worked at an ad agency, Super Deluxe (RIP), Rooster Teeth, a venture capital firm, and some spunky startups called Facebook and Google.
my focus has always been on marketing and understanding my generation. i am right on the cusp of Gen Z and Millennial but consider myself to be more the former. i’m fascinated by the world around me and the decisions that drive actions, especially by the younger generation. what gets them to download an app? what advertisements excite them? what apps do they use daily and why? etc.
why did you make this?
a few years ago I had a mega-viral hit (here) that lead to a plethora of amazing speaking opportunities, interviews, and follow-up blog posts (read about the whole journey here). this experience put me in contact with a lot of people in the industry who have expressed interest in follow-up blogs from me, but I honestly just haven’t felt ready to publish anything. i hope the lightweight format of a newsletter can help me get out my thoughts faster.
what will this be about?
this newsletter will mainly cover whatever i think is interesting in the world. generally what i find interesting are innovative advertisements, up-and-coming applications and social media trends, experimental & experiential campaigns, and more. but i want to leave it vague as this newsletter starts to see where it goes.
how often will this happen? what’s the format?
the newsletter will be a combination of my thoughts and links that i find interesting. this will be the longest message in the newsletter, most of them i expect to be about a 2-4 minute read max. that’s about the attention span i have for most newsletters anyways.
it will come out whenever i feel like there’s something worth updating you about. i’ll aim for once a week but sometimes there will be more, sometimes less.
expect a lot of hot takes and industry predications that will always 100% come true.
Very excited to do this.
Andrew Watts
